Bench to Bedside: Chemistry of Health Care

Academic Drug Discovery (#69)

The search for new therapeutic agents has traditionally been conducted in an industrial setting. More recently, scientists in academic settings have made significant contributions in this area, both in conjunction with industrial colleagues as well as on their own. This symposium is intended to provide an opportunity to tell some of these success stories, to highlight some nascent programs in an effort to foster new collaborations and to provide a forum for the discussion of methods to facilitate the initiation and advancement of drug discovery efforts. Multiple therapeutic areas will be discussed, including antiinfectives and oncology, with projects ranging from preclinical candidate identification through compounds that have successfully completed clinical trials and achieved regulatory approval.
