Synthetic Biopolymers (#37)
This symposium will be focused on synthesis, properties, and applications of synthetic polymers prepared from natural components, such as amino-acids, sugars, and other metabolites. These naturally derived materials have capability to form ordered structures and assemblies that mimic their natural counterparts, incorporate functionality that allows them to interact with biological systems, and can be degraded to inoffensive byproducts. We plan on bringing together scientists from different Pacific Rim countries working on new synthetic methods, biopolymer characterization, processing and self-assembly, and application of biopolymers in different areas, such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, and as high-performance engineering materials.
