Biological

Function, Chemistry, and Signaling of Glycolipids and Phospholipids (#273)

Glyco- and phospholipids are important structural and functional components of biological membranes. The structural complexity and hetereogeneity of lipids is an ongoing challenge in the field, and new tools are being developed to probe these systems using chemical synthesis and analytical methods. This symposium will include recent advances in the preparation of synthetic lipids, especially those containing modifications that can be used to investigate lipid structure and function. Application and development of analytical methods that provide insight into the location, identity, modification, conformation and function of lipids will be highlighted. By bringing together researchers working to develop new synthetic tools and those investigating their application, the symposium will provide an excellent forum for networking between these two major directions in the field.
