Proteomics and Metabolomics in Agricultural, Environmental, and Public Health Sciences (#264)

Proteomics and metabolomics have become powerful tools in agricultural, environmental, and public health research. Proteomics and metabolomics can provide key insights into the normal physiological state of a cell or organism and its response to adverse stimuli such as toxicants, disease and/or other changes in an organism's environment. There are numerous challenges as well as opportunities in proteomic and metabolomic research for applications to: 1) biomarker discoveries in response to stresses such as pathogens, pesticides and/or environmental changes, 2) food safety, 3) food authentication, 4) pesticide mode of action, 5) disease mechanisms, and 6) linking exposures to adverse outcome pathways. This symposium will focus on applications of proteomics and metabolomics to such challenges in agrochemical and public health science. Symposium will cover several areas: 1) New advances in proteomics/metabolomics, 2) Protein bar-coding and food authentication, 3) Proteomic/metabolomic indicators of environmental stress, 4)Proteomic/metabolomics and mechanisms of action of pesticides and biopesticides, 5)Proteomics and bioremediation, 6) Proteomic and/or metabolic based disease detection and therapies, 7) Biomarker/bioindicator discovery
