Chemistry of Clean Energy Conversion, Storage, and Production

Current Status and Future Prospect of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (#188)

This symposium will provide a forum for new reports in polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) research. It will bring together the growing community of scientists concerned with synthesis and characterization of polymer electrolytes and electrocatalysts, structure and properties of the electrode-electrolyte interface, fabrication and performance of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs), and post-test analyses of fuel cell materials.

The symposium schedules four half-day sessions and two poster sessions. Topics will include (1) synthesis and characterization of polymer electrolyte membranes, (2) theory and multiscale simulation of membrane structure and function, (3) electrocatalysis, (4) interfaces and MEAs, and (5) analyses of fuel cell materials and reactions.

We expect a large response from the community due to the importance of fuel cells and intense interest in new materials. This symposium is planned for a critical year in the development of fuel cell technology since the major automotive manufacturers have targeted commercialization of fuel cell vehicles in 2015.
