Advances in Biological Solid-State NMR (#120)

Developments of novel solid-state NMR techniques will be emphasized with a focus on resolution and sensitivity enhancement, including computational, high field NMR, dynamic nuclear polarization, and paramagnetic doping approaches. Secondly, recent advances in high-resolution structure determination of membrane-associated proteins & peptides and crystalline proteins by multidimensional solid-state NMR spectroscopy will be discussed. Third, studies of orientation, conformation, dynamics and interaction of proteins & peptides in magnetically-aligned membrane systems will be presented. Fourth, dynamic information in bimolecular solids, where local motion can be studied over a wide dynamic range without the complexity of overall tumbling of biological complexes, will be addressed in relation to biological function. Fifth, molecular arrangement of supramolecular complexes and fibril formation will be discussed in relation to molecular folding, misfolding and aggregation.
