Connecting Chemistry with Society
Connecting Ionic Liquids to Societal Issues: Materials, Medicines, Energy, and Water (#113)
This symposium is focused on the potential impact of Ionic Liquids research on global aspects of the chemical enterprise related to sustainability of world resources, including green chemistry and the globalization of chemistry. In particular, the symposium will cover and discuss the role and interplay of science, technology, innovation, and economic development in world stewardship of precious, limited resources while providing physical and economic security for all world citizens. Experts from inside and outside and the field of Ionic Liquids will provide international perspectives related to areas of critical need, such as the supply of medicines and clean water and energy, and the limitations or restrictions of raw materials for products which lead to improved quality of life. Invited and contributed research presentations will detail how Ionic Liquids might address these needs and improve world stewardship in the context of differing national government and business environments. Sub themes will include application to the Production of Water and Energy, Biotechnology, Sustainability in Chemical Industry, and the role of the Entrepreneur.
