The major goal of this symposium is to highlight the recent advances in chemistry of novel nanocarbons including 1) fullerenes, 2) endofullerenes and nanocapsules, 3) carbon nanotubes, and 4) related materials including nanographenes and nanodiamond for basic sciences and potential applications. Among the various fields of nanocarbon science, chemistry of nanocarbons, more specifically their chemical functionalization, still remains as the subject to be pursued with all efforts. Chemistry is the study of transformation of materials, and is always important for creation of new functionality in novel material such as fullerenes and carbon nanotubes. The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum for the presentation concerning all aspects of chemical research of nanocarbons. In the course of this symposium the organizers intend to have presentations from leading scientists in the fields of organic, inorganic, physical and theoretical chemistry and materials science. We also intend to have presentations from scientists in both industry and academia.
