Development of new types of magnets including a superconducting magnet and a strong permanent magnet has opened the possibility of new applications of magnetic fields in Analytical Chemistry. In this symposium, novel separation and detection methods will be reported especially in relation to the micro-particle analysis in bio-analytical and environmental analyses. Magnetic separation methods such as magnetophoresis, magnetic-chromatography, isomagnetophoresis, electromagnetophoresis and magnetic levitation developed for the analysis of nano/microparticles are also reported. As for the detection methods, the studies on electrochemical application, magnetic tweezers, magneto-optical analysis, magneto-chiral dichroism and magnetization imaging will be invited. Application of magnetic nano/microparticles and magnetic fluids in Analytical Chemistry is another emerging field, especially in the fields of nano-bio separation and analysis. Novel applications of various types of newly prepared functional magnetic particles and colloids are welcomed. In this symposium, novel applications of magnetic fields in separation, detection and imaging are presented and future prospects will be discussed.
