This symposium will focus on selective catalytic reactions of olefins mediated by the early transition metals (i. e., metals of groups 3-7). Examples of selective transformations to be discussed include - inter alia - stereoselective polymerization and selective oligomerization (e. g. ethylene to 1-hexene or 1-octene). Homo- and co-polymerization of polar monomers as well as selective oxidations (e. g., olefins to epoxides) may also be included, if time permits. The role of the early transition metal will be to catalyze the olefin transformation. Stoichiometric reactions of early metal complexes will not be included, as they are the foc us of a separate symposium (#150). |
