New small molecule and polymeric liquid crystalline and related anisotropic soft materials continue to be widely targeted for applications in such diverse areas as organic electronics, catalysis, optics, and medicine. This symposium will bring together a highly interdisciplinary group of chemists and chemical engineers to discuss topics that range from the design and synthesis of new liquid crystalline materials to the development of new devices based on liquid crystals. We anticipate a lively discussion of the latest advances and challenges in the field.
The symposium is subdivided into 4 sessions(confirmed speakers):
1. Liquid Crystals in Organic Electronics (Jun-ichi Hanna, Soo Young Park, and Seth Marder);
2. Liquid Crystalline Nanomaterials and Nanomaterials in Liquid Crystals (Torsten Hegmann, Myongsoo Lee, Kiyoshi Kanie, and Georg Mehl);
3. Liquid Crystal based Polymers in Nanoscience and Biotechnology (Rongben Zhang and Ping Xie, Yue Zhao, Douglas Gin, Tomiki Ikeda, and Tim Bunning);
4. New Liquid Crystals and Applications - Expanding the Limits of Design and Function (Robert Lemieux, Nicholas Abbott, Takashi Kato, and Hideo Takezoe).
