The symposium will examine novel methods for the design of chemosensors and probes by utilizing fluorescence as a transduction mechanism. An emphasis will be placed on rational design strategies that utilize theory and computation as an integral part of the process. Sensors based on various mechanisms will be discussed including photoinduced electron transfer (PET), fluorescence resonance electron transfer (FRET) and strategies that utilize nanostructures, both organic and inorganic.
