C-H Functionalization, Memorial Symposium for Professor Keith Fagnou (#18)

The main research subject of this symposium is the synthesis of C-C bonds and C-X bonds by direct functionalization of C-H bonds. Such synthetic transformations represent an important and long-standing goal in chemistry as the vast majority of molecules with highly valuable and diverse molecular and physical properties are functionalized hydrocarbons. This symposium is dedicated to the memory of Professor Keith Fagnou. His sudden death has tremendously affected the organic chemistry community and we felt galvanized to organize our symposium to commemorate his memory. This symposium will bring together a group of 8 world-class leaders in the area as invited speakers who will illustrate the broad aspect of C-H functionalization with their scientific presentations. Keith's Ph.D. advisor, Prof. Mark Lautens from University of Toronto, has accepted to speak in Keith's place at this symposium. Other invited speakers who have accepted to speak in this symposium include: Olafs Daugulis, University of Houston; Fumitoshi Kakiuchi, Keio University; Zhang-Jie Shi, Peking University; M. Christina White, University of IIinois at Urbana-Champaign; Chao-Jun Li, McGill University; Melanie S. Sanford, University of Michigan and Philip Wai Hong Chan, Nanyang Technological University. These combined with the 20 lectures will be presented during 2 days, starting Saturday afternoon, and there will be a poster session on Sunday night.
