Preparation of early transition metal and lanthanide compounds is important since these compounds show very interesting reactivities and properties. These compounds are useful not only in inorganic chemistry but also in organic chemistry. Reactons on these compounds are unique and quite different from those of late transition metal compounds. In this symposium, the following topics will be discussed. (1) Structure, (2) physical property (3) ligand exchange reaction, (4) reduction and oxidation, (5) stoichiometric reaction, (6) reaction of liggands, (7) carbon-carbon (or hetero atom) bond formation, (8)carbon-carbon (or hetero atom) bond cleavage reaction and (9)reaction mechanism, of early transition metal and lanthanide compounds. However, polymerization or oligomerization is not involved in this symposium.
