Qualifications for the Student Poster Competition

The candidates must be either:

A Graduate Student (Higher Degree) Student. A Graduate or Higher Degree student is a student working toward a post-baccalaureate or post-graduate diploma or qualification granted by a college or university. The student is working toward, for example, a Master’s or Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree.
OR
An Undergraduate Student. An Undergraduate is a student working toward a post-secondary diploma or qualification granted by a college or university. The student is working within a course of study toward, for example, a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree in chemistry or other field of science.
● Candidates must submit the Student Poster Competition application and abstract through the Pacifichem 2015 abstract system as a poster or oral presentation.
● Candidate abstracts must be accepted as a poster or oral presentation into one of the technical symposia or into one of the general poster sessions.
● Candidates who are accepted into the oral program, must prepare a poster presentation based on the same subjects presented in the oral presentation.

Post-Doctoral Fellows, research associates, and non-students are ineligible for the Student Poster Competition.

In anticipation that Pacifichem 2015 will receive a large number of qualifying applications from the undergraduate and graduate students attending Pacifichem 2015, the Scientific Program Subcommittee will pre-select the top 240 first-round finalists as eligible to participate in the Student Poster Competition Session during the meeting.  During this poster session, 40 Student Poster Competition award winners will be selected based on the following criteria: novelty and importance of the research, and quality of the written abstract.

Selection Process

● Applications screened from the student poster and oral abstracts submitted through the Pacifichem 2015 abstract system.
● First-Round Finalists (350 posters) selected.
● Final Award Winners (54 posters) selected.

Schedule in 2015

● July: Prescreening of the Student Poster Competition candidates.
● September: Prescreening completed with the selection of 350 finalists and the results e-mailed to all applicants.
● Tuesday, December 15: Pacifichem 2015 begins.
● Tuesday, December 15, 12 pm – 2 pm: Student Poster Competition Session for the 350 first-round finalists.  Candidates must also present the poster during the poster session to which the abstract was accepted.
● Friday, December 18, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm: Student Poster Competition Awards Luncheon for the 54 winners of the Student Poster Competition.
● Sunday, December 20: Pacifichem 2015 ends.
